Philosophy

Founded in 2010, The Smart Start Preschool and Learning Center, LLC is a learning center dedicated to the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth of children ages six weeks old and up.

Our child care program is based on the common core of the Connecticut Curriculum framework. We believe that all children are special and unique and learn in a variety of ways.  Children will learn through weekly themed lesson plans and various small group activities.

Our History

The Smart Start was founded in 2010 by Natasha Mendes. After some time in the public school sector, Natasha decided to go the private school route and open her own school. The Smart Start started off as just a preschool program for children ages 3 to 5 years old.

The Smart Start expanded in April 2011 to include school-age children.  The "Over 5 Club" program is designed for children in Kindergarten up to sixth grade.  The program allows children to learn more about themselves, others and the world around them.  Homework help along with a wide variety of activities are available to the school-age child.  Bus transportation is also available through the public school bus company in the West Woods school district.

In January 2013 we moved to a new, larger building.  We expanded to take infants and toddlers.  Our newly added programs brought the need for new staff and we could not be happier with what has been happening here.

Our Summer Camp was the final addition to our programs and is comprised of many activities and fun for all ages! Summer is one of the best times of the year. Our summer is comprised of weekly themes where we explore all the exciting things summer has to offer such as camping, beach week, dinosaurs, under the sea and the night sky! We also continue the education with a summer reading program and in house guests like Curious Creatures and Mad Science as well as field trips to local museums and parks.
